patriotic-rockIn Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Lt.-Col. John McCrae

This weekend I rode in the JJ Bonnell Memorial Poker Run for a fallen soldier, a marine, who died in Iraq. He was 22 years old and won the Purple Heart in Operation Iraqi Freedom. We were raising money for a scholarship in his name.

Around town there are billboards with JJ Bonnell’s picture on them in his uniform with the following quote.

John 3:16

16For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

So this year a special thank you to JJ Bonnell and his family.
